Is a blend of ancient origins and colonial establishment. Long before it was a town, the region was home to modern humans as far back as <\/span>130,000 years ago<\/strong>, with significant archaeological finds at the nearby Blombos Cave.\u00a0<\/div>\n
Founding:<\/strong>\u00a0The town was established in\u00a01838<\/strong>\u00a0on the farm\u00a0Doornkraal<\/em>\u00a0after the Dutch Reformed Church sought to create a new parish for the local farming community.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Naming:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>It was named after\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>Harry Rivers<\/span><\/strong>, the Civil Commissioner of Swellendam at the time. While “Riversville” was initially suggested, Rivers himself preferred the name\u00a0<\/span>Riversdale<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
