AfriCanyon River Adventures was formed in order to share this multipart kloofing route, which lies in the hidden valleys of The Crags, near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route.

New to it or a seasoned canyoneer all clients are kitted up with high spec safety equipment. Professional guides ensure that every person experiences this canyoning adventure with the highest regard to safety. An adventurer and explorer by nature, founder, Rogan Hindmarch, has explored this river with his sons and friends for many years. With over 10 years of Mountain Search and Rescue experience and over 30 years rock climbing experience, he ensures that the AfriCanyon team will guide you through this outdoor adventure, with safety top priority.

AfriCanyon offers Adventure Activities near Plettenberg Bay
Explore the river with AfriCanyon, navigate through the river shallows, jump, zip-line, swim through fresh-water mountain pools, slide down natural water slides and abseil in and around waterfalls as you dip down into the river gorge.
First timer, novice or seasoned at canyoning we’ve got your back. Under our professional guidance, using the high spec adventure equipment your qualified guide ensures a kloofing adventure you simply can’t get enough of.

Descend a 50 meter cliff-face into a riverbed. Your double guide-controlled decent allows you the time to breath in the natural surroundings, take in great views, river carved ridges and wide open skies – feel inspired by the geological landscape and natural formation of this ridge of fingers as you make your way down into a river valley dating back to the beginnings of time.
More than just an abseil. This unique double discipline trip offers an introduction into #ViaFerrata as you make your way to the abseil edge.
This neat little route is exposed, some may say a little “extreme”. It is fun, it is testing and ultimately it will have your heart thumping! Bringing with it the rewards of accomplishing a challenge!
Our AfriCanyon river adventure starts with registration, getting your wetsuit, abseiling kit and a quick briefing at basecamp. We then transfer you to the river entry point, a short drive in our vehicle and within minutes you are on your way. A brilliant combination of fun and adventure in the great outdoors!

WHAT DOES IT COST & WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
We offer two trip options:
Standard Canyon Trip:
Duration: 4 hours. Cost ZAR 800 per adult, R600 kids – 16 years
Includes swimming, abseiling, optional jumps, and zip-line only on the full length trip.
Trips start at 09h00, 11h00 and 13h00 daily.
Short Canyon Trip:
Duration: 2 hours. Cost: ZAR 600 per adult, R450 kids – 16 years
Includes swimming, abseiling, optional jumps.
Trips start at 10h00 and 14h00 daily.
• Trip durations are approximations and will vary according to group size and river conditions.
• Guests need to arrive 1hour prior to their time slot booked.
• Booking essential as there are a limited number of places on each of our daily trips.
WHAT’S THE MINIMUM AGE ALLOWED ON THE TRIP?
Minimum age for the trip is 8 years old.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?
Weather in the Crags area can be very different to the town of Plettenberg Bay and we will run the river in light rain.

WHAT DOES AFRICANYON SUPPLY?
All adventure equipment. ie. Wet Suit, Harness, Helmet, Life Jackets. (Shoes can be rented from us at R45,00 a pair)
WHEN MUST I GET THERE?
Please arrive 1 hour prior to your booking time for gearing up and a briefing.
HOW LONG DOES THE EXCURSION TAKE?
Depending on the option chosen.
Standard Canyon: Allow approx 3 – 4 hours
Short Canyon: Allow approx 2 hours

I’VE NEVER KLOOFED BEFORE; CAN I STILL DO THE TRIP?

In fact we know you’re likely to want to do it again and again!
There is option 1 the standard canyon trip that includes the zip-line, yep, the “Full Monty” or a short canyon “dip” to choose from. Both include swimming, abseiling, optional jumps, and a whole lot of fun for all.
